Yup…

You’re gonna freakin’ love this post (mainly because of the Dr. Evil meme’s lol.)

Last week I stopped at a pawn store and saw this “cool looking flashlight thing.”

After taking a closer look I noticed that it was a giant laser pointer by a company called “Wicked Lasers”. It came with a few extras packaged in as well like different lenses and other gear.

Price tag? $249.99.

I check it out up close and find out the battery is totally DEAD.

I pull out my phone and run through the Flipping Ninja’s 4 Weapons of Determining Value to quickly get a feel for what it might be worth.

As I’m doing that, the pawn shop guy whips out his phone too and Google’s it.

“Yeah, I wouldn’t wanna pay more than like $100 bucks for it from what it’s looking like online.” He says.

…Now don’t get me wrong… he seemed like a nice, cool dude and all… but it’s like bro, WHY ARE YOU DOWN-SELLING THE PRODUCT?!?! You should be selling it UP, not down!

Anyway — it WAS good for me on the other side of the counter. But I guess the salesman in me was disappointed that he was cutting the price so drastically without me even naming a price, lol.

Moving onward…

It also turned out… the numbers he saw weren’t even accurate.

In reality, these were selling for $400-$700 online (The Flipping Ninja’s 4 Weapons of Determining Value ain’t no joke… and once you’ve got them, simply knowing them will make you thousands of dollars — literally).

So I’m thinking hmmmm… the battery is shot, there’s no battery charger… it’s risky business. What if this thing is totally broken – even with a new battery?

I say; “Okay it’s priced at $250. How much would you guys sell it for? At this point we don’t know if it even works or not.”

I totally didn’t expect him to go this low.

He picks it up, inspects it for a few seconds then responds, “I could probably let it go for $85 bucks.”

Having to hold back my excitement, I respond with “Alright, I can do $85.” Let’s roll.

I didn’t even care at that point. Even if it didn’t work, it was a risk I was willing to take considering how much they went for online.

Now why did he sell it so cheap?!

Well here’s why:

It turned out that every separate part and component (you know how there was a buncha parts all packaged together initially?)… had been SCATTERED around the store in weird random corners and stuff. Like a puzzle…

…for 526 days.

They’d just recently brought each part together and packaged ‘em all up, and that’s when I happened to stumble on it.

Now if you don’t know this about Pawn stores, if they don’t sell their items after a certain amount of time, they’ll keep discounting the price like crazy until it sells.

Sometimes they even LOSE money because something won’t sell (which is good for YOU because you can snatch it up cheap and flip it).

So I walk out the door with this awesome laser pointer for $85 bucks. I take it home and do some more research. This is the strongest laser pointer you can LEGALLY own!

I then ran to the battery store to pickup a replacement rechargeable battery + charger for $29.

Moment of truth…

Tested it out and it worked freakin’ perfectly. Coolest thing ever. Super duper strong laser (it’s almost TOO bright).

Now of course I had all my fun with it before selling it… this thing burns (literally)! It even reached skyscrapers in broad daylight!

How often do you get play with some of the world’s strongest…

Side note: that’s another perk you’ll enjoy as a flipping ninja – you’ll come across the most RANDOM things and toys and have a ton of stories to tell.

I do some more research on these laser pointers and turns out the company, Wicked Lasers, they don’t even ship to the USA anymore – period!

Which is GOOD! Another thing you can use as a selling point. Scarcity. If something is hard to find, or limited edition, rare, etc., make sure to really highlight that in your ads and make it clear because — and mark my words — it can make you a lot of money — really fast (check out this blog post for an example of what I mean…).

After I had my fun with it… I knew it was time… Time to:

…for selling.

I cleaned it up, took some killer shots and posted it on eBay for $489.99 as a Buy It Now price. The next day I get a $300 offer and accepted it. (although I’m bummed out because right after they paid, I got ANOTHER offer for $400… oh well).

$85 laser pointer + $29 battery+charger = $114 investment
Sold for: $310
Profit: $196.

Cha-ching.

To Wrap Things Up…

I just wanna make one thing clear to you… because I know this is what you’re thinking:

“Alright A.J., that’s cool and all, but this is a rare occasion. You got lucky. This laser pointer example doesn’t happen every day. Usually it’s much harder and there’s not much to flip out there.”

My answer to that?

100%… No, 1,000% FALSE.

In fact, flips like this are very common and very normal, believe it or not.

YES, I’m telling you that you can do these types of things almost daily. And make $200, $300, $400 per day this way.

But there are only two exceptions.

• You have to WANT TO and
• You need to know what you’re doing… but just a little.

Now keep in mind… I’ve been doing this for almost a decade now and I still get days where I need to REMIND MYSELF; “Dude, this is NORMAL. It’s OKAY that you just made a boatload of cash in such little time. Don’t be freaked out. Just keep it going.”

You will likely experience this as well. But realize that it’s a mental barrier that’s NORMAL – especially starting out. There’s nothing wrong with you.

It’s just how most of us have been conditioned us to think. We’re so used to showing up at a job that pays us hourly that once you start making several days’ worth of money in a fraction of the time, it kind of catches you off guard… and it’s not consistent with what you’re used to.

You know, it’s funny how our brains operate. You tell someone you just made $400 bucks flipping something on a Saturday evening and they almost don’t believe it or never see themselves being able to do it.

In fact, here’s a story about how I flipped Nike Airmax shoes on eBay when I was 13 years old – and how my buddy at the time started bashing me for it and calling me crazy. Definitely worth a read.

My point to all this is that there’s a big disconnect in this business that prevents people from making money – and it’s all in their heads. There’s another game being played around you, and it’s not what you think it is.

But it gets better.

There’s a secret to finding these types of flips and deals… on a daily basis.

Now I’m not sure if I’ll get too deep into what it is in this blog post… I’ll save that for another time.

But I will touch on it just a bit… just so you can have a tiny glimpse. Because it gets deep. But here it is:

The moment you fully immerse yourself into flipping, and learning the tricks of the trade inside out, something almost magical happens.

…and it’s NOT just the fact that you’ve gotten “skilled” or “really good” or know all the secrets.

It’s something even deeper.

You’ll start to attract these deals to you. As weird as it sounds… they’ll come to YOU.

I talk about this phenomenon in detail in The Flipping Ninja Blueprint – it’s called “The Eye for The Deal.” Once you develop the Eye for the Deal, you’ll start seeing opportunity, money, profit, and deals everywhere you go – all around you. You won’t even have to think about it.

In science, it’s something that’s often referred to as the “Reticular Activating System.” If you want it, you may just get it. Here’s an article that covers what’s going on in depth and what the real “secret” I’m talking about is that few understand.

It’s not a matter of luck. Finding great deals and flips like this becomes a normal occurrence. Which means you can “activate” it anytime you want. In fact, once you “turn it on,” it’s always on. You’ll see these deals all around you and everything you touch turns to gold.

Now you’re probably thinking, “Alright A.J., what the hell is all this cheesy stuff?” 

Lol, believe me. As cheesy as it may sound, it’s real. And every successful person knows it if you ask. Your brain is always working — so whatever you “prime” it for, whether to be on the lookout for deals, money, opportunities — etc — it will find them.

… On the other hand, if you’re thinking about how there’s no chance you’ll find good deals or thinking thoughts like “I can’t do this”… then that will also be true for you. And you won’t see the deals when they’re right before your eyes.

So it’s a double edged sword. It works both ways. Simply put, you become and attract what you think about.

Phewww! I didn’t mean for this post to get all deep and out there — but I know there are a lot of you who will immediately stop yourself with comments like that before even trying. And you can’t do that.  Because you’ll never make money and find the best deals and flips that way.

On the other hand,

Take a minute and imagine what it’d feel like to constantly and easily making $100 bucks here… $200 bucks there… $400 bucks here…

There’s an ABUNDANCE of money for you to make out there flipping things on Craigslist, eBay, thrift stores, pawn shops, and more.

But you can’t just read about it. You need to go out and do it.
